SANDY SPRINGS RESIDENTS GET INVOLVED
TO BETTER SANDY SPRINGS

ATLANTA—More than 60 Leadership Sandy Springs alumni and community members gathered Saturday, April 16 in Sandy Springs to participate in the third-ever Volunteering for a Better Sandy Springs (VBSS). The now annual event brings together volunteer projects from non-profits in Sandy Springs, in hopes of inspiring Sandy Springs residents to get more involved in their community.

This year’s event proved to be bigger and better than ever with five different projects for volunteers to choose from. Volunteers helped to clean up the wooded areas - pulling wisteria and picking up trash - around the Williams-Payne House and along Morgan Falls Road; straightened up the shelves at the Sandy Springs Regional Library; provided assistance to seniors at Campbell-Stone North Apartments including hanging pictures, turning mattresses and walking dogs; and painted bookshelves at the Community Action Center.

Leadership Sandy Springs was founded in 1986 to identify, educate and develop emerging Sandy Springs leaders and encourage their participation in addressing the needs of our community. Through a series of program days and activities, participants learn about the Sandy Springs area, interact with elected officials and community leaders, and study issues facing our changing community. Each class ends its term by completing a community project that meets a specific need in Sandy Springs. VBSS was started in March 2003 as part of the LSS Class of 2002’s final class project. The event was deemed a success and the board of trustees and officers decided to continue the event as part of LSS’ annual program opportunities. This year’s event was the third consecutive event.
