My Sunday Afternoon in Helen, Georgia

I took a trip short trip up to Helen, Georgia with some friends on Sunday, July 27, 2003, and I must say, it was definitely a fun time!

We arrived in Helen around 3:30 p.m. and parked our cars in the Cool River Tubing parking area.  We left everything in the cars except for our bathing suits and headed into the building.  Three adults and four kids – all for $35.00!

After getting our hands stamped for the LONG trip, which lasted about an hour and a half, we went downstairs, picked out the tubes we wanted to ride in, threw them in the trailer, grabbed lifejackets, and hopped on the bus.  We were headed about three miles north to the second drop-off point. (The first stop is for the hour-long trip).

After being dropped off, we were on our own!  We tied four tubes together with the lifejackets, (you are not required to wear them), and set the kids free!  Then the adults jumped on ours and off we went!!!

If you don’t pay attention, though, you will end up getting stuck by huge rocks and have to push yourself out!  I laughed so hard at this guy getting out of his tube and falling that I ended up hitting a rock and falling in, too!  (That’s what I get for laughing at him)!

Other riders had huge sticks, their shoes/sneakers on, and some were even fully clothed!  I thought it was funny to see them with shoes on, at first, but when I realized how hard those rocks were on my feet, I wished I had worn mine!  I was pretty beat up by the end of the ride!  It was so much fun, though!  I would do it again with a crowd of friends because the funniest parts are when you reach the “dips” in the water and there are rocks in your way- it’s so funny to see how someone gets out of the “jam” they are in!  That is definitely the funniest part because you see people fall in, trip, flip over, and lose their tubes!  Laughter is such a positive thing!

I woke up with a few minor bruises but a memory worth sharing with all of you!  So, if you are looking for an inexpensive, fun, and different thing to do with the kids one day, I suggest the Cool River Tubing Company in Helen, Georgia!  Have a good time and don’t fall out of your tube too much!
